Wintersday for those absent on January 1st
Is there any word on obtaining headgear for people that are going to be absent during the finale? I vaguely recall there being mention somewhere that something will be in place to allow absentees to get their special items if they can't be around at that particular time.
Any word would be helpful, especially from Gaile! *winkwink*

Well there was a way to get the hats after the event for the Dragon Festival but not for Halloween so I don't know if there will be for Christmas, could go either way.

Yes, hopefully there will be a way for people on vacation, incapacitated, or not able to be around on the first to get their holiday hat after the finally. I'll be on vacation from Dec 23rd thru the 1st and when I get back late evening of the 1st after a 10-13 hour car trip, I'm probably not going to feel like logging on. I'm sure as heck not going to log on before I leave the 23rd and leave my character afk for the entire time I'm gone! So, other options would be most welcome to me, and several others I'm sure.

Use Virtual machines. Go anywhere where there's internet. Log on to your PC remotely.
Alternative: bring GW on flash drive and run it off that using a windows livecd.

I am going to be so smashed on New Years that I won't even be able to figure out how PC's switch on, so I do hope that there'll be a way to obtain the stuff afterwards.

***Spoilers about the Holiday Events***
Last years Wintersday event was similar to the recent Halloween event.
Every three hours for a twenty-four hour period there was a mini event for roughly 30 minutes at the end of which
your character would receive a holiday headgear.
I strongly hope that it will be taken into consideration that *MANY* people have more characters than they did a year ago
and that those of us who do would like the chance to get a holiday headgear for each of them.
I happen to have ten level twenty characters.
One event every three hours for twenty-four hours makes it impossible to get a headgear for all of my ten characters, especially if, like previous holiday events, there will be more than just one version of headgear available to get.
I hope that the Grand Finale will be extended to a period of time longer than the previous twenty-four hours.

This Wintersday Festival is like the one last year, and like the Halloween Events of both 2005 and 2006: There are many appearances of Grenth and Dwayna during the course of New Year's Day, but that is the only day during which you can obtain the special hat. I do understand that this would be disappointing to those who cannot attend on that day, but it is a holiday for most and I believe we've planned nine appearances of the wintry duo (just as there were nine appearances of The Mad King).
We believe that the event is quite accessible while still rendering the finale meaningful and assuring that the items gained that day are special collectables.

What happened to the idea of a collector that stays behind for a week or so?
We had one for the Dragon Festival!

I will also miss the chance to get a Wintersday hat, again.
I wish Anet would do the same as in the Dragon Festival where you can trade in some special items (Jade Wind Orbs for the Dragon mask) for a period of time after the event.
I've still got 500 Jade Wind Orbs - I just can't bring myself to part with them after spending so much time getting them!

each appearance is slightly staggered throughout many districts
last Halloween there were 100+ LA districts, just switch districts and hope to catch the tailend of an ongoing appearance
its possible to get as many as 3 hats per "appearance interval"

I agree... Some of us can't spend a holiday on a game. its sad to know that anet doesn't keep this in consideration that grown ups play gw and would like to have collectables.
I don't think it would be that hard to put a collector even for 2 days afterwards but I guess its just my opinion

If they made it accessible to everyone like they did the dragon hats, then there wouldn't be a separation of 1337 and non-1337. Can't have that, we need some method to segregate players.
If everyone was happy, the whole economy breaks down and the game is ruined. Because everyone is happy...
